Small-business grant seminars available Fridays in June

Free webinars this month will help innovators find money to develop their inventions
in Alaska through federal Small Business Innovation Research grants and Small Business
Technology Transfer grants.
The webinars are hosted by the Alaska Established Program to Stimulate Competitive
Research, the Alaska Small Business Development Center and the University of Alaska
Fairbanks Office of Intellectual Property and Commercialization.
Registrants can watch the webinars as a group on the Fairbanks campus in Murie 330.
Registrants who cannot attend in person will receive a link upon registering.
All webinars run from 10-11:30 a.m. Fridays in June.
- June 16 — "Essentials of SBIR STTR Proposal Preparation for the National Science Foundation"
You've thoroughly read the solicitation and planned your NSF SBIR or STTR project;
now it's time to prepare the actual application. This webinar takes you through necessary
steps for collecting the application information and completing the proposal components.
In addition, it provides practical tips on formatting and style as well as advice
on pitfalls to avoid.
Presenter: Michael Kurek, Ph.D., MBA, senior principal consultant, BBCetc - June 23: "Commercialization Planning for SBIR-Stage Companies." With commercialization
and transition plans being a key differentiator in the SBIR/STTR programs, it is important
to know what the agencies are looking for and how to go about developing good plans.
This session covers the expectations that various agencies have for commercialization
plans in your phase I and phase II projects, where to find cost-effective market research
resources, what quality “support and commitment letters” are, and more.
Presenter: Michael Kurek - July 7: "Essentials of SBIR STTR Proposal Preparation for the Department of Defense."
This webinar covers the department’s rules and steps for preparing a proposal, including how
to make each section succinct and compelling. It provides an understanding of the
differences between Defense Department components, tips on how to identify a topic,
the importance of talking to the technical points of contact during the prerelease
period, as well as common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
