University Relations

An expert in federal programs that steer research dollars to small businesses will offer training sessions on the Fairbanks campus June 22-23.

Becky Aistrup from BBC Entrepreneurial Training and Consulting will offer an overview of the federal Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. The programs award more than $2.6 billion in research and development funding annually to qualified small businesses.

Aistrup's half-day session will provide an overview of SBIR/STTR funding, including topics such as eligibility, agency selection and key proposal components. The class is designed to provide enough information for attendees to determine if they would like to pursue a grant or contract proposal.

The SBIR/STTR 101 session will be June 22 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the International Arctic Research Center, Room 401.

After the SBIR/STTR 101, Aistrup will lead a workshop from noon to 4:30 p.m. on how to craft a competitive SBIR/STTR proposal that meets the National Institute of Health's unique requirements. A second NIH session will be held June 23 in IARC 401 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
