Small business workshop series offered

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will offer a small business workshop series in
Fairbanks, by videoconference in Anchorage and by webinar around the state, beginning
Oct. 3.
The series is hosted by the UAF Cooperative Extension Service and the UAF Community
and Technical College. Nine workshops will be taught in Fairbanks on Wednesdays or
Saturdays, through Dec. 9. The five afternoon workshops will be offered by videoconference
at the Anchorage District Extension office at 1675 C St.
Extension Economic Development Specialist Kathryn Dodge said the workshops will provide
guidance to small business owners interested in starting or expanding their businesses.
Participants may attend one or all of the workshops. Topics include:
- Beginning social media and mobile marketing for small business, 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 3
- Intermediate social media and mobile marketing, 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 10
- Developing ideas into businesses, 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 17
- Starting a small business, 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 21
- Writing a business plan, 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 28
- Business legal forms, 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 11
- Record keeping and taxes for mining, 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 18
- Understanding and accessing credit, 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 2
- Getting a small business loan, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9
The small business loan class will be offered only at the Small Business Development Center at 3750 Bonita St. in Fairbanks.
