Graphic image for SPE chapter conference, containing the same primary info as the story.The Society for Photographic Education's Northwest Chapter Conference will be held on the Fairbanks campus Sept. 13-15. The conference will feature more than 45 hours of presentations, panels, discussions and workshops by over 40 educators, artists, curators and students. Headlining 2019's  "In Our Voices: Culture/Identity" conference is Brian Adams, Anchorage-based Iñupiaq photographer, and Lorenzo Triburgo, Brooklyn-based LGBTQ+ artist.

Adams' keynote speech on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. is free and open to the public, and will feature a cultural introduction by Vice Chancellor Evon Peter and a dance performance by the Pavva Iñupiaq Dance Group. Triburgo's keynote on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. will also be free and open to the public. Both presentations will be in UAF's Schaible Auditorium.

A concurrent photography business expo will be held in Wood Center on Friday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m, and will be open to the public.

The rest of the conference features a variety of activities, including networking opportunities for local artists and educators, more than 40 presentations, panel discussions and workshops, two full days of portfolio reviews, and various outdoor adventures. The conference (excluding keynotes and business expo) requires registration. Students can use a the discount code "ualaska19" to reduce the fee to $15, and Alaska residents can use "akres19" to reduce their fee to $75.
