SOM surcharge
January 17, 2018
According to the official tuition differential proposal, the School of Management
surcharge was justified based on the following:
- the fact that business students get better paying jobs generally speaking, but all the more so from UAF because we are AACSB accredited
- numerous other business schools often charge differential tuition for their business classes, and
- maintaining our AACSB accreditation by hiring qualified faculty is expensive.
In order to better explain to non-business SOM students why they are being assessed the surcharge, can someone please explain why the tuition differential charged for HSEM, MSDM and economics classes if those degrees are not subject to the justifications provided in the official proposal? At this time, simply directing them to the official proposal doesn't help because they accurately say "But I'm not a business student."
