Staff changes — director of diversity
January 4, 2012
Chancellor Rogers has appointed Mae Marsh as UAF's director of diversity. Mae will
replace Earlina Bowden, who retires in January after 10 years as director of the Office
of Equal Opportunity.
"I'd like to thank Earlina for her exceptional service and commitment to our university,
our community and our state," Rogers said.
Bowden ensured UAF's compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations relating
to equal opportunity, affirmative action and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
She advised, trained and counseled hundreds of students and employees on appropriate
workplace conduct and facilitated many formal and informal resolution processes on
EO/AA/ADA issues.
"I want to thank campus community for the kind thoughts you expressed on my retirement. I have enjoyed working with
you and wish you the best in the future," Bowden said.
Before her time at UAF, Bowden was the Fairbanks North Star Borough's EEO officer
and was an EEO specialist for the U.S. Army.
"Earlina's positive spirit, exceptional work and dedication to UAF's mission will
be missed," Rogers said.
Marsh, who currently serves as deputy director of EEO for the Defense Contract Management
Agency, is expected to start March 5. She will be responsible for continuing to ensure
UAF's compliance with federal and state EO/AA/ADA laws, UA/UAF policies and procedures,
promoting a diverse workforce, and cultivating an environment that supports the well-being
of all UAF employees and students.
