Student capstone project event to raise hunger awareness
November 12, 2013
Members of the campus community are invited to attend "Rackin' in the Rice," an event
to raise awareness of hunger, Friday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. at the Hess Rec Center.
Attendees can form teams of two or three people for a quiz-show competition. Correct
answers win grains of rice to feed the hungry via the website freerice.com, which is run by the United Nations World Food Programme. Teams with the most grains
of rice will win prizes. In addition, the event will include a guest speaker from
the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, a food drive for the UAF food pantry and a simple
beans and rice dinner that can be purchased for $1 or a can of food.
The event is being organized by UAF student Emily Smola and is her capstone project
for the Honors Program. Download a flier here.
