Student email accounts
October 19, 2018
All students are assigned a University of Alaska email account when they first enroll.
We encourage you to use your UA email account for as long as you’re a student, and
even as alumni. However, we know that many students already have another email address
that they prefer to use. You’re welcome to use whatever email address you prefer,
as long as you set up a forward from your UA account.
To forward emails from your UA account to a personal account, go to Elmo and log into Option 1. Scroll down, and on the left side of the screen, you can change
the email destination from “UA Google Apps” to whatever email destination you prefer.
You’re responsible for reading, and when requested, acting on, any emails the university
sends to your UA email account. Emails of a sensitive nature will only be sent to
your UA account, so it’s critical that you either check it frequently or forward it
to an address that you use on a regular basis.
Additionally, you’re welcome to indicate a preferred email account in UAOnline (Personal Information > Manage Your Address, Email and Phone Information). Even if
you take this step, it’s still important for you to set up the forward within Elmo
Option 1.
