University Relations

The students and staff of the UAF TRiO programs invite the public to celebrate National TRiO Day, on Thursday, Feb. 22, from noon-2 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge. This celebration will be one of hundreds all across the United States.

UAF Director of Admissions Mary Kreta will be keynote speaker at the event, and Evelina Savonin will be the student speaker. A panel discussion by staff, alumni and faculty will highlight ways the university supports TRiO-eligible students. Jason Johnson Sr., a UAF TRiO and Honors Program alumnus, will receive the TRiO Achiever Award at the event. The Biomedical Learning and Student Training program will be recognized as a TRiO champion for its continued collaboration with and support of SSS. Susan Henrichs, the UAF provost, will be recognized as a TRiO champion for her continued support and advocacy of SSS throughout her time spent at UAF.

TRiO programs, established by the federal government in the 1960s, provide students from disadvantaged backgrounds with a variety of services, including academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring and financial guidance. UAF's Student Support Services is a TRiO-supported program that helps college students achieve their academic goals.
