Applied business and accounting students can now earn verified microcredentials from
the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College.
Credly, a leading firm in the field, will verify the students’ microcredentials through
a new partnership with UAF CTC.
A microcredential represents a student’s mastery of a specific skill. CTC’s applied
business and accounting program offers industry-recognized microcredentials in Microsoft
Excel, social media marketing, and entrepreneurship and small business.
Credly’s verification will give microcredential earners a digital badge for sharing
on social media platforms such as Facebook or LinkedIn. They can add the badge to
their email signature block. Microcredential earners also will have access to job
market information through Credly.
Credly’s microcredential verification confirms that earners have met standards that
are trustworthy demonstrations of their knowledge. The verification shows peers and
employers evidence of subject mastery and how it was achieved.
CTC student Paula Earp recently received two microcredentials confirming her ability
to use Hootsuite, a social media management platform.
“This credibility demonstrates to the broader world that I have attained a level of
competency that is validated by one of the nation’s leading social media management
tools for businesses,” Earp said.
UAF CTC’s applied business and applied accounting program offers certificate and associate
degrees that can be completed 100% online. With 13 concentration areas to choose from,
students can customize their education to advance careers in fields such as business
management, tourism, human resources and public administration.
