Students from Alaska and beyond can win cash prizes and share their love for the Arctic with international Arctic leaders through the One Arctic Student Art and Video contest that begins this week.

The contest is open to students ages 5 through 18. The contest theme is "many lands, one Arctic." Original art and short video submissions should express how the lands and people of the Arctic are connected and describe one or more specific aspects of the Arctic, such as animals, people, food, health, oceans or culture. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 19, 2016. For submission instructions, guidelines and complete contest rules, visit assw2016.org/engage/contest.

Winning students from four categories will be awarded prizes for first place ($100), second place ($50) and honorable mention. The categories include grades K-6 art, grades K-6 video, grades 7-12 art and grades 7-12 video. Winners will be announced on March 1.

The winning artwork will be on display throughout the 2016 Arctic Science Summit Week, which will attract nearly 1,000 leaders in Arctic science and policy to the University of Alaska Fairbanks from March 12-18, 2016. The winning videos will be screened during several conference and public outreach events during the week.
