This week with Summer Sessions, you can enjoy lectures, movies, concerts and much more.
All events are held at the Murie building Auditorium or otherwise noted.
Wednesday, June 12
5:30- 6:30p.m. — Activity: Family Fitness Wednesday - "Capture the Flag contest," this activity is great for ages 5-10, families will work together to protect their flag in the field outside SRC. In case of rain, an alternate activity will be planned inside the SRC.
7 p.m. — Discover Alaska Lecture: “Moving to Fairbanks: On Poetry and Place” with Dr. John Morgan, Professor Emeritus of English
Thursday, June 13
7 p.m. — Film: “Sleeping Tigers: The Asahi Baseball Story” 2003. 50 mins
7 p.m. — Concert: “The Fairbanks Red Hackle Pipe Band” (at the Georgeson Botanical Garden)
Monday, June 17
7 p.m. — Family Cultural Nights: "High Schooler: A look into Thai student's life" with Janejira Piyamahapong
Tuesday, June 18
7 p.m. — Healthy Living Lecture: “The Memory Spectrum: How do you know when it’s Alzheimer’s? with Dr. Pierre Tariot, Director & Helle Brand PA, both of Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, University of Arizona College of Medicine.
Wednesday, June 19
5:30- 6:30p.m. — Activity: Family Fitness Wednesday - Play kickball with an over-sized ball, all skill levels are welcome. This activity is organized outside the SRC. In case of rain, an alternate activity will be planned inside the SRC.
7 p.m. — Discover Alaska Lecture: “Decoding glaciers: Revealing the secrets of how glaciers work” with Dr. Martin Truffer, Professor of Physics
Thursday, June 20
7 p.m. — Film: “Speakers for the Dead" (2000). Reveals some of the hidden history of Blacks in Canada. In the 1930's in rural Ontario, a farmer buried the tombstones of a Black cemetery to make way fora potato patch. 50 min.
7 p.m. — Concert: “Will Putnam & Trudy Heffernen” Will and Trudy collaborate to form Trill Music Productions. They are known for their original Alaskan acoustic, folk and authentic bluegrass music (at the Georgeson Botanical Garden)
