Trauma-informed approaches to teaching encourage faculty and staff at postsecondary institutions to view university students in a holistic way, as people who bring both positive and negative life experiences to the classroom.

A trauma-informed approach encourages faculty and staff to remain active participants in their students’ success, by acknowledging and making space for the impacts of trauma on students as learners. These approaches ensure students not only succeed academically, but remain physically, emotionally, and spiritually well throughout their educational journey.
