Theatre UAF auditions
August 23, 2011
Auditions for the UAF fall 2011 semester Theater UAF productions will take place beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre
in the Fine Arts Complex. Remember, Theatre UAF auditions are open to the public;
you do not have to be a UAF student or a theatre major to audition for UAF productions!
The fall mainstage production, The Messenger, is a hybrid stage-and-screen event, with live performances in October and the movie
premiere May 4, 2012. Some roles for this show are for the movie only, and some are
for both — this is your chance to be in a movie.
Auditions for The Messenger will be screen tests beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre.
More information about The Messenger is available online.
The Messenger also needs many extras; currently there are three opportunities for that; you don't
need to audition to be an extra (without lines); but please sign up to receive further
details about that at the same website.
This is an original piece written by Theatre UAF professor Kade Mendelowitz — and
the movie will be entered into national film festivals. Some small shoots are already
in the can from this summer.
There will also be auditions for three student-directed Winter Shorts; these gems are typically short one-act plays by established authors and directed
by theatre students. This set of "Shorts" will perform in early December and includes:
- Family 2.0 by Walter Wykes, directed by Chris Mertes
- Speed-the-Play by David Ives, directed by Melissa Buchta
- An Evening Crossword by Kimberly Megna directed by Andrew Cassel
Auditions for those pieces are also on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Salisbury Theatre, with three one-hour time slots (one for each show) beginning at 4 p.m.
More information about those auditions — and all of them in general — is available online.
