Three athletic director finalists to visit campus

Three finalists for the position of intercollegiate athletics director at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will visit campus this week.

The candidates will spend Wednesday and Thursday meeting with members of the search committee, university administrators, and Alaska Nanooks staff members and coaches. Chancellor Brian Rogers and Vice Chancellor Mike Sfraga will select the new director and announce their selection Friday afternoon.
Following are the names of the three finalists:

Carl Clapp

Clapp currently serves as associate athletics director at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a position he has held since 2006. His career in athletics has spanned more than three decades and includes positions in coaching and administration, as well as experience as a commissioner with the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference. Clapp has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California and a master’s degree from the University of Arizona.

Gary Gray

Gray currently serves as the director of intercollegiate athletics at Montana State University, Billings, a position he has held since 1994. He has nearly 40 years of experience in both K-12 and higher education, serving as a coach, teacher, professor, dean and athletics administrator. Gray has a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton; a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky, Lexington; and a doctorate from the University of Oregon, Eugene.

Bill Macriss

Macriss currently serves as the deputy director of athletics at Sacramento State, a position he has held since 2007. Prior to that, he served as associate athletics director and media relations director for Sacramento State. In addition to his work there, he has served in media relations and sports information positions at Southern Utah University, Utah State University and California State University, Bakersfield. Macriss has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Utah State University.
