Tuttle named Alaska Native Language Archive director

Siri Tuttle, associate professor of linguistics at the Alaska Native Language Center, has been appointed director of the Alaska Native Language Archive at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Rasmuson Library. She has served since January as interim director.

Tuttle will continue the work of ANLA in preserving and archiving the Alaska Native language collections and making them available to the public, both physically and electronically. The collections grow increasingly valuable, particularly those materials that preserve languages whose speakers have declined in number.

Tuttle, who holds a doctorate in linguistics from University of Washington, has long experience working with Alaska's Athabascan languages and especially Lower Tanana, the original language of the Fairbanks area. It is spoken in the village of Minto.
