Author Lord and poet Wall featured at visiting writers series

Poet Emily Wall and author Nancy Lord will read from their works at 7 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 26, as part of the annual Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series sponsored by the
University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of English.
Lord and Wall will read in the Elvey Building auditorium (Room 214) on the Fairbanks
campus' West Ridge. The reading is free and open to the public.
Lord’s work is informed by a deep connection to the landscape and cultures of coastal
Alaska and northern communities. She served as Alaska's writer laureate from 2008-2010
and is the author of 10 nonfiction and fiction books, including most recently "pH:
A Novel." She lives in Homer and teaches writing at the University of Alaska Anchorage
Kenai Peninsula College's Kachemak Bay campus, in UAA's low-residency master's of
fine arts degree program and in Johns Hopkins University's graduate science writing
program.
Wall is an associate professor of creative writing at the University of Alaska Southeast.
Several literary journals in the United States and Canada, including most recently
Prairie Schooner and Alaska Quarterly Review, have published her work. Salmon Poetry
published her two books, "Liveaboard" and "Freshly Rooted." She lives in Douglas,
Alaska.
The Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series is made possible by support from donors to
the English Department and College of Liberal Arts. The college, the largest of UAF’s
academic units, comprises arts, humanities, social sciences and language disciplines
across 20 departments.
