Department of the Interior offers internship
February 23, 2016
The U.S. Department of the Interior's Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance
is offering a summer internship at the Anchorage office.
The office provides the lead voice on a range of environmental issues in the agency's
bureaus and offices.
Interns will assist with the Interior Department's disaster preparedness program in
Alaska and Alaska-based oil discharge and hazardous substance release preparedness
documents. Other duties may also include general research, assistance with environmental
review and comments on external federal projects, preparation of draft reports and
meeting summaries, and general office duties. Exposure to federal laws governing natural
resources will help improve the intern’s understanding of federal service and the
agency's mission.
The internship is unpaid and would be a minimum of six hours per week, beginning summer
2016, with specific hours negotiated. It could extend into the fall.
The applicant must be a U.S. citizen enrolled in a college or university and receiving
school credits, or accepted into a college or university for the summer or fall semester.
The applicant should send a resume, cover letter and three references to Grace Cochon
with OEPC Alaska at grace_cochon@ios.doi.gov. The applicant must pass a security clearance,
which includes a standard fingerprint and background check. A college transcript must
be provided to OEPC directly from the applicant's school.
Completed applications must be received by Friday, March 4, 2016.
