UAF Community and Technical College will celebrate partners
December 4, 2019
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Community and Technical College will host a celebration
of community and industry partners from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at its Fairbanks
downtown center, 604 Barnette St. The First Friday event will also feature a gallery
of CTC-themed photos by JR Ancheta, UAF's photographer.
The public event will recognize the support that local businesses and individuals
give to Fairbanks’ community college, partnering in CTC’s mission to build a quality
workforce in Alaska and help students succeed.
UAF CTC prepares and educates the people who serve as the foundation of Alaska's communities
— firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, mechanics, medical assistants,
early childhood education professionals, oil and mining professionals, and much more.
More than 2,700 students have completed job preparation programs at CTC in the past
four years.
On Friday, the come-and-go, open gallery format will recognize partners with each
CTC program and display Ancheta's photos. Culinary arts faculty and students will
prepare food live throughout the event for attendees to watch and sample. Remarks
and acknowledgments will take place at 5:30 p.m., with Alaska state Sen. John Coghill
as the keynote speaker.
“UAF Community and Technical College is a part of Alaska's economic engine. We prepare
Alaskans for the workforce, educating and training Alaskans for Alaska jobs," said
CTC Dean Michele Stalder. “We could not accomplish that without our community and
industry partners.”
CTC partners provide support in many different forms. Examples include the donation
of emergency vehicles for training first responders, the use of professional facilities
for health students to complete their clinical experience, the donation of industry-standard
uniforms for automotive students, and the service of advisory board members who help
ensure the curriculum meets employers' and students' needs.
