As winter starts its retreat from the Interior, it's time to start dreaming of digging your hands through the warm compost and dirt in your garden beds. To help get the gardening season started, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Community Garden will host a public lecture by Steven Seefeldt entitled "The Secrets to Successful Gardening in Raised Beds in Alaska" on Thursday, April 10, at 6 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.

Seefeldt is agriculture and horticulture agent with the Cooperative Extension Service in Fairbanks.

At 5:30 p.m. in the same location, UAF Community Garden representatives will explain how to sign up and pay for 2014 plots and answer any questions.

People can sign up by filling out the form at http://tinyurl.com/2014UAFGardenForm. UA students, staff, faculty and emeriti have priority over others. After April 28, if there are plots for which the garden fee has not been paid, registration will open to others at the discretion of the garden committee.

Questions can be emailed to uaf-campuscommunitygarden@alaska.edu. See the UAF Community Garden website for more gardening information. Those who "like" the garden's new Facebook page will be notified of gardening-related news.
