Hannah Whitaker, a graduate student in the UAF counseling program, has been named a 2020-2021 Emerging Leader by the American College Counseling Association.

The association selected three applicants nationally for the honor. The award highlights Whitaker's clinical work in college counseling, her research and her academic excellence.

For the past year, Whitaker has provided counseling at the UAF Student Health and Counseling Center and is currently working on a thesis research project. She is scheduled to graduate with her Master of Education in clinical mental health counseling in May 2021.

"I hope to continue my education in a Ph.D. program, as well as my efforts toward equity in mental health care,” she said.

The award comes with an invitation to attend the American College Counseling Association's virtual conference, Feb. 18-19, 2021.
