UAF listservs will retire May 31
May 17, 2021
As part of ongoing efforts to streamline services, OIT will be decommissioning the
mailman lists service at the end of May. UA users have access to a variety of other
services (listed below) that meet or exceed the quality of service provided by the
existing mailman service.
I am a mailman listserv owner. What does this mean for me?
If you are the owner of an existing listserv, this means you have two options: transition
your existing listserv to one of the replacement services available, or allow your
listserv to be "turned off" as part of the service decommissioning. Many users have
already transitioned old listservs to replacement services, and OIT is happy to help
any outstanding lists transition as well.
How can I start the transition process?
As part of transitioning, users are encouraged to complete this brief survey to help identify the solution that best fits their needs. A full list of replacement
services available to UA users is also available in the OIT service catalog. For many users, the suitable replacement will be either a UA-managed Google group
or a public Google group, based on what your specific user access needs are.
If you have any other questions about transitioning, please contact the OIT service desk for additional information or to get started.
What happens if I don't transition my listserv?
All lists and their associated content, such as membership lists, that are not transitioned
to an alternative service will not be available after May 31.
