LJ Evans

I am pleased to inform you that UAF has received a gold rating for sustainability in a national higher education rating program.

The Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System, or STARS, is administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

Participants report their achievements in the following areas:

  • education and research

  • operations

  • planning, administration and engagement

Nearly 265 higher education institutions have registered as STARS participants. Out of the 121 ratings, UAF is proud to be one of 23 gold-rated institutions.

This achievement attests to the collaborative efforts made by our students, staff, faculty and community members to continue pioneering sustainable solutions.

I'd like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of the UAF Office of Sustainability for help in collecting and verifying submission information: Anne Rittgers, Heather Currey, Heidi Konttinen, Zoe Marshall, Brandon Hoover, Jessie Huff and Phil Glowa.

Many thanks to the UAF department chairs who supplied information on short notice as well.

We look forward to continual improvement as we implement additional sustainability initiatives across the campuses.
