UAF to end partnership with MACS transit

University Relations

Due to recent budget reductions, UAF is ending its partnership with the Fairbanks North Star Borough Transit System.

Starting Thursday, Aug. 1, students, faculty and staff will not be able to use their PolarExpress card to ride the borough bus system for free. UAF is looking into expanding shuttles services as an alternative; ASUAF will solicit input from the UAF community after classes resume this fall.

Those who wish to purchase monthly bus passes may do so at the downtown transit center at 501 Cushman St. or the MACS administrative center at 3175 Peger Road. Monthly passes are $40; reduced passes are available for $20 per month for qualifying individuals (youths ages 6-18, individuals with Medicare or Medicaid cards, active military and dependents, and those with qualifying disabilities). For more information on MACS transit options, please contact the MACS customer service department at 459-1010, ext. 1.
