The Brian Lewis Young Artist Program, in partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Music, will host 10 talented young violinists from across the country this month for two weeks of intensive coaching.

Celebrating 12 years of musical excellent, BLYAP’s program aims to share the joy of music and to grow the legacies of the notable violin educators Dorothy DeLay and Shinichi Suzuki. BLYAP violinists receive extensive musical coaching from nationally recognized artists, including UAF’s own Bryan Emmon Hall.

The BLYAP will feature three free public performances in the Davis Concert Hall on the UAF campus:

  • Tuesday, June 25, at 7 p.m., a recital of sonatas for violin and piano

  • Friday, June 28, at 7 p.m., a showcase for each violinist, accompanied by the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Eduard Zilberkant. Featured composers will be Conus, Dvorak, Paganini, Saint-Saens, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, and Wieniawski.

All performances are free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, and performances start at 7 p.m. The Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation underwrites the BLYAP.
