The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the Small Business Innovation Research
Road Tour on July 20, which offers a detailed overview of federal programs that annually
provide more than $2.5 billion in seed funding to early stage businesses and innovations.
The Small Business Innovation Research program encourages domestic small businesses
and entrepreneurs to pursue research and development that has the potential for commercialization.
The road tour is designed to help participants understand the SBIR award-based funding
process, provide an opportunity to meet one-on-one with funding agencies, and learn
what ideas align with those agencies’ areas of interest and missions.
The event, offered through UAF’s Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship,
will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wood Center ballroom. Eight federal agencies
will give presentations, including NASA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National
Science Foundation and the Department of Defense Missile Defense Agency.
Registration for the event costs $40 and includes lunch. To register, go to http://bit.ly/uafsbir1. More information about the SBIR Road Tour is available at www.sbirroadtour.com/.
