The University of Alaska Press has announced that several of its books are now available for sale through the Amazon Kindle Store.

“We currently have 26 new and best-selling titles available as e-books for the Kindle,” said Joan Braddock, director of the University of Alaska Press. “We plan on building a robust collection and will add more books as they get published.”

The opportunity to make UA Press books available for the Kindle came about through a partnership with the University of Chicago Press, according to Braddock.

Several months ago, the University of Chicago Press entered into an umbrella agreement with Amazon Digital Services Inc., allowing their partner presses to publish electronic books for sale in the Kindle Store. UA Press has collaborated with the University of Chicago Press since 2007 to expand its presence in the Lower 48 and internationally.

“Our publishing program is one of the vital ways in which the University of Alaska serves the people of Alaska and the northern regions of the world, and this collaboration is another way to reach that community,” Braddock said.

Among the books now available on the Kindle are Brian Garfield’s best-seller “The Thousand-Mile War: World War II in Alaska and the Aleutians,” Terrence Cole’s “Fighting for the Forty-Ninth Star: C. W. Snedden and the Crusade for Alaska Statehood” and Edna Wilder’s “Once Upon an Eskimo Time.”
