The 2014 American Association of University Presses' “Book, Jacket and Journal” exhibit will be displayed Oct. 7–16 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Rasmuson Library.

The exhibit features the winners of the AAUP's annual scholarly book design competition. Among this year's winners is “I Am Alaskan,” created by Brian Adams published by the University of Alaska Press. The photography book was honored in the AAUP competition's “Trade Illustrated” category.

From 883 entries, the 2014 AAUP competition jury selected 39 books, 22 jackets or covers and one journal as examples of excellent design. A select group of these works will be on display on the main level of the library, along with a catalog of all competition entries.

Adams' book has earned accolades from around the world. The Chicago Tribune said, “Adams presents scores of striking portraits in which the piercing gaze of his subjects dares you to pigeonhole them.”

Launched in 1967, the UA Press is a nonprofit scholarly publisher and distributor of books about Alaska and the circumpolar regions. Press publications cover an expanding range of subject areas, including Native languages and cultures, science, politics, history and original translations.
