Vet students offer pet portraits with Santa at fundraiser
November 8, 2016
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of Veterinary Medicine will host a student fundraiser that features pet portraits with Santa, a human- and pet-friendly bake sale, knitted items for people and pets, and paw prints of pets. The fundraiser will be from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Ken Kunkel Community Center, 2645 Goldstream Road.
The funds will go into a University of Alaska Foundation account to help support the department, veterinary students and related projects, future fundraisers, events or travel expenses.
Victoria Hammer, who is a second-year student in the professional veterinary medicine program between UAF and Colorado State University, said the fundraiser plays on the students' strengths.
"Everyone began contributing ideas; some people are really good at baking, others at crocheting and knitting," she said. "We thought it would make a great fundraiser to have a bunch of different options at the event so that it would not be too tailored toward a certain crowd."
