Volleyball trio honored on GNAC All-Academic Team

Three Alaska volleyball student-athletes have been honored for their respective academic successes as junior Keri Knight (Arvada, Colo./Business Administration) and seniors Allison Oddy (Chilliwack, B.C./Social Work) and Reilly Stevens (Riverside, Calif./Biology) were named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday.
Knight and Oddy are repeat selections after being tabbed to the list a year ago while Stevens was awarded the accolade for the first time.
Knight, a junior Business Administration major, holds a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average. On the court, she ranks third on the team and 20th in the GNAC with 2.30 kills per set. She is also third for the Nanooks with a .160 hitting percentage and fourth with 14 service aces.
Oddy, a senior Social Work major, has a 3.33 cumulative GPA entering her final two semesters at the university. A four-year starter for the Nanooks, she leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference with 4.57 digs per set. She also surpassed the 1,000-dig mark this season and ranks in the top-five all-time in program history in the digs department.
Stevens, a senior Biology major, maintains a 3.34 GPA. After transferring to Alaska a year ago, the California native received her first GNAC academic honor now that she has competed for more than a season in Blue and Gold. Stevens ranks 19th in the conference with 2.61 digs per set and is second on the team with 164 kills this year.
A total of 40 GNAC volleyball student-athletes were honored on the 2012 list. Montana State-Billings junior Taylor Adams, a Health & Human Performance major, headlined the list with a solid 3.95 GPA.
Central Washington led all GNAC programs with seven selections, followed by Seattle Pacific, Western Oregon and Western Washington, which each had five players on the list. Saint Martin's saw four of its spikers named All-Academic and Alaska Anchorage, MSUB and Simon Fraser joined Alaska with three. Northwest Nazarene rounded out the GNAC with a pair of selections.
Seven student-athletes were honored for the third time while 10 others received the accolade for the second time. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 (cumulative) and be in at least their second year of competition at their current university.
