The University of Alaska Fairbanks will be participating in the statewide Alaska Shield 2019 emergency exercise April 10-12. As part of that, UAF will host a “point of dispensing” exercise event at the Hess Rec Center on Friday, April 12.

Setup of the exercise will start at 10 a.m. and activities will be done by about 2 p.m. Members of the campus community may notice increased foot traffic in the area during the exercise.

Volunteers are also needed to serve as “patients” from noon to 1 p.m. and receive simulated medication (candy) as part of the exercise. Anyone can volunteer for all or part of the hour-long exercise, which will test the exercise team’s ability to dispense medication in the event of a public health emergency. No experience or preparation is required to volunteer, and volunteers get free candy. Just come to the Hess Rec Center between noon and 1 p.m. Exercise participants will give you instructions when you arrive.
