The Kodiak Area Marine Science Symposium, which highlights local marine science research, will be held as virtual event from April 19-23.

The Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program, with support from regional partners and contributors, organizes the symposium as a forum for researchers to share findings within the research community and to the public. Oral and poster presentations will cover a variety of marine science and related fields. Scientists will address current research on fish, crabs, harmful algal blooms, marine mammals and birds.

The symposium begins with a keynote address by Steve Barbeaux at 6 p.m. Monday, April 19. Barbeaux, a research fisheries biologist at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center, will address marine heat wave impacts on Gulf of Alaska Pacific cod.

The symposium is free and open to the public. An agenda and registration information are available at https://alaskaseagrant.org/event/kodiak-area-marine-science-symposium-2021/.
