Week's events: UAF history, arthritis talk, Alaska interviews, Celtic music

University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting nearly 50 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week ahead:


  • On Monday, July 17, the Down Memory Lane interview series will feature a discussion with Anne Shinkwin, professor emeritus of anthropology, 1971-91. The conversation will be at 7 p.m. at the Elvey Building auditorium.

  • On Tuesday, July 18, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature rheumatologist Dr. Raymond Wilson on “Arthritis in Alaska.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Wednesday, July 19, the Discover Alaska lecture series will present Robert Hannon, journalist and KUAC on-call news producer, on “Alaskans in conversation.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Thursday, July 20, the Music in the Garden concert series will host the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival Celtic Ensemble. The ensemble will perform traditional Irish music with tin whistle, Irish guitar, bodhran, Irish flute, bones and Irish dancing. Music begins at 7 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
