University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting nearly 50 free lectures, concerts and other events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week ahead:

  • On Monday, Aug. 7, the Down Memory Lane interview series will feature a discussion with Dave Klein, professor emeritus of wildlife management, 1962-97, and Dan Hawkins, professor emeritus of geology and chemistry, 1967-90. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will conduct the interviews, which will be at 7 p.m. at the Elvey Building auditorium.

  • On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Mike Bork, certified laughter yoga leader, on “Laugh yourself healthy with laughter yoga.” The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Wednesday, Aug. 9, the Discover Alaska lecture series will present Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Karl Kassel on “As green as it gets.” He will showcase a variety of residential-scale designs, construction techniques and renewable energy systems that have demonstrated their effectiveness at living more responsibly and sustainably in Fairbanks’ cold climate. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. at the Murie Building auditorium.

  • On Thursday, Aug. 10, the Music in the Garden concert series will host the ET Barnette String Band. Named for the bluegrass-loving founder of Fairbanks, the band delivers picking and four-part harmony. Music begins at 7 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
