Enjoy First Friday at the International Arctic Research Center in the Akasofu Building lobby. The event takes place Friday, Dec. 7, from 3-6 :30 p.m. The map office will feature 15 percent off wall maps, and Sea Grant items will also be available. Meet the artists and writers at 3 p.m. (The display will be viewable at noon.)

Artists include researchers, staff and friends of the West Ridge community and a performance by North Star Strings. Contributors include Christina Buffington, Jessie Young-Robertson, Kimberly Cox, Ned Rozell, Nicole Moelders and Olivia Lee. Collaborations include "Hot Time in Cold Places," by Margaret Rudolf and Matthew Sturm; "Chukchi Ecosystem Observatory," by Claudine Hauri and Klara Maisch; and "Fairbanks Sogetsu Class," by Maiko Iwahana, Ronald Inouye, Hisako Suzuki Ito and Lucy Smyth.
