Winter Shorts Nov. 10-19
November 7, 2017
The UAF Student Drama Association presents Winter Shorts, an annual student-produced
collection of one-act plays. This year also features the debut performance of two
UAF student-written pieces plus an all-student design team (Frederica Matumeak, costumes,
Colby Freel, lighting and Mary Conlin, set). The plays will be performed in the Lee
H. Salisbury Lab Theatre in the Fine Arts Complex.
In "Home," by Vinecia Coleman and directed by Mary Conlin, a woman struggles with
how to cope with her husband's suspected infidelity. "The Writer," by local writer
Chip Bolcik and directed by Freddy Gryder, deals with the existential problems of
two characters and their struggles with the concept of free will. In "Over the Line,"
by UAF student writer Freddy Gryder and directed by Adam Gillette, two roommates explore
the boundaries of how words can be used to establish relationship or push people away.
This play includes references to drug use. In "Ace," by UAF student Frederica Matumeak
and directed by Lara Lotze, a young woman confronts a demon in a battle of wits to
save her life and the lives of her friends.
All plays use varying degrees of explicit language, and theatrical haze will be used
in the second half of the show.
Show dates are Nov. 10-11, 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12, 2 p.m., Nov. 17-18, 7:30 p.m. and Nov.
