Wood energy and biomass forum hosted in Palmer

The Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center will host the Wood Energy and Biomass
Forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in Palmer.
A panel of experts from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Pacific Northwest
and Pakistan will talk about practical alternative energy for agricultural, home
and community use. Topics will include the use of biochar, a type of charcoal, as
a soil amendment and for remediation of heavy metals for mining; microgrids and microhydropower
systems; the use of biomass gasification for electricity and heat; and thermal mass
greenhouse heaters.
Speakers will include Mingchu Zhang, Debu Misra and Jonathan Kamler of the University
of Alaska Fairbanks; Brian Fronk of Oregon State University; Mike Leister of Washington;
Qari Waheed of Pakistan; and Jim Scott of Talkeetna.
The forum will take place at the Matanuska Experiment Farm’s Mess Hall, at 1509 S.
Georgeson Drive. The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service
is coordinating the free event.
