Youth climbing programs for fall 2019
August 7, 2019
Registration is now open for the fall 2019 youth climbing programs.
Recreation Climbing Club
This after-school climbing session teaches basic rock climbing skills and technique
through top-rope climbing and bouldering. We also encourage communication, teamwork,
problem solving, trust and confidence through climbing with a small group of climbers.
We want to grow a lifelong appreciation of climbing in our participants.
Space is limited to 10 students.
Minimum age: 8 years old
Coach: Emily Smola
Offered: Aug. 28-Dec. 4, Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. (no practice Nov. 27)
Cost: $200/semester
Fairbanks Flash Youth Climbing Team
The Fairbanks Flash Youth Climbing Team gives climbers the chance to hone their skills
and knowledge through bouldering, top-roping, and leading/mock-leading. Practices
are aimed at teaching each climber intermediate and advanced skills and technique.
Expect an atmosphere of dedicated and supportive climbers who commit to exercises
and conditioning with each practice. The coach is a highly knowledgeable and experienced
climber who is devoted to his students and assists each athlete to prevent injury,
maximize climbing time, pinpoint strengths and weaknesses, motivate, inspire, and
promote a healthy team environment. High school team members were eligible for high
school physical education credit last semester, and the current syllabus is being
reviewed for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Space is limited to 10 students and is by invitation only. Contact Christian Mogensen
at cgmogensen@alaska.edu for more information.
