Youth development series offered in Fairbanks
July 11, 2017
The Alaska 4-H program will host a three-part brown bag professional development series
on positive youth development Fridays in Fairbanks, beginning July 14.
Ninety-minute workshops will begin at 11:30 a.m. They will feature trauma-sensitive
yoga on July 14, youth-adult partnerships on July 21, and girls’ circle and council
for boys and young men on July 28.
Organizers are calling the series the “PBJ of PYD,” or the peanut butter and jelly
of positive youth development. 4-H agent Candi Dierenfield said the title conveys
that the right combination of ingredients is what makes a great sandwich and a great
youth development program. "Positive youth development has the ingredients to bring
change," she said. The series is geared to adult mentors, foster parents, volunteers,
teachers, parents and youth development professionals.
The series fee is $30, and the registration deadline is Thursday, July 13. Registration
and more details are available online at http://bit.ly/PBJofPYD. Dierenfield and 4-H agent Kendra Calhoun will teach the classes at the district
Extension office in the Fairbanks Community Food Bank building at 724 27th Ave. For
more information, contact Dierenfield at cldierenfield@alaska.edu or Calhoun at klcalhoun@alaska.edu. 4-H is a youth development program of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative
Extension Service.
