Alaska 4-H will celebrate National 4-H Week Oct. 2-8 with activities open to the public,
including science programs and open houses.
Oct. 5 is 4-H National Youth Science Day, and young people in Fairbanks and on all
Army and Air Force installations in Alaska will have the opportunity to participate
in the “Drone Discovery” science experiment, which is a hands-on engineering design
challenge. Participants will learn everything from flight dynamics and aircraft types
to safety regulations, remote sensing and flight control.
Several 4-H offices will also host open houses or other special activities, including
Fairbanks, Juneau, Sitka, Aleknagik and Dillingham. A list of events is available
at www.uaf.edu/ces.
4-H is the nation’s largest youth development program. The University of Alaska Fairbanks
Cooperative Extension Service administers 4-H in Alaska. For more information, contact
local Extension or 4-H offices or Deb Jones, the state 4-H program leader, at deb.jones@alaska.edu or 877-520-5211.
