Invitation to join Arts, Humanities and STEMM Integration Working Group

The UAF Arts, Humanities and STEMM Integration Working Group comprises faculty, students, staff, researchers and administrators working to advance the integration of arts, humanities and STEMM at UAF. Group meetings (approximately monthly) offer a forum for presenting and discussing new initiatives, sharing ongoing projects, exchanging ideas, and building an interdisciplinary community at UAF. All interested UAF personnel are invited to join the group at any time.

book excerpt

The group got its start in spring 2018. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and the Alliance for Arts in Research Universities published a report titled "The Integration of the Humanities and Arts with Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Higher Education: Branches from the Same Tree." According to the report, evidence strongly suggests that "integration of the arts, humanities, and STEMM fields — science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine — is associated with positive learning outcomes that may help students enter the workforce, live enriched lives, and become active and informed members of a modern democracy.” Read/download the full report
