Ashley Munro to lead Financial Aid
Ashley Munro has been selected as the new Financial Aid Director. She began her work in the UAF Financial Aid Office in 2008, and while working to support the strategic enrollment goals of UAF, she led the office through a variety of process improvements. For the past six years, Munro facilitated a cross-campus team to review and streamline complicated scholarship structures, implemented several new scholarship programs and proposed strategies to simplify technical processes. UAF won a national award for the implementation of the Emergency Scholarship Program, which Munro implemented with a team of student services professionals in 2019.
Serving on UAF’s Strategic Enrollment Planning steering committee enabled Munro to represent the Financial Aid Office in strategies to support recruitment and retention goals. Through this process, she has led a change in the award packaging philosophy to include financial aid leveraging scholarships. Her experience in submitting and implementing proposals and knowledge of the long-range plans for UAF will be a benefit to the financial aid office and enrollment management team.
Since joining the UAF Financial Aid Office, Munro has actively participated in committees across campus and in the financial aid professional organizations. For the last 13 years she has served in regional and national training, teaching complicated regulations and coaching fellow financial aid administrators. Through her volunteer activities, Munro has built a network of support across the country and learned implementation tactics from her peers. She is among the first administrators to earn all 17 National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators credentials, and is the first Certified Financial Aid Administrator in the state of Alaska. These credentials, along with her experience at UAF, make her uniquely qualified to serve as the Director of Financial Aid.
