Please include this information in your communications:

  • Usage in the course (required or recommended).
  • Include any supplies that are also required or recommended, i.e. scantrons, green books, chem goggles, lab coats, graph paper, calculators, USB drives, composition books, etc.
  • We carry 100 Question/882-E and 15 Question Quizzstrip/815-E scantrons)

If you are not planning to require course material for the Spring 2023, please still submit a book adoption stating that. This helps to eliminate confusion when students are looking up what materials are required for their courses.

It is important for instructors to submit their book adoptions as quickly as possible because:

  1. Used books are available from wholesale vendors on a first-come-first-serve basis. The mass majority of college campuses are also requesting from them. The earlier Follett is able to order books, the more likely used books will be available, allowing the bookstore to offer a cheaper price.
  2. Long shipping transit times. It may take 2-6 weeks for book orders to arrive at the bookstore. If book adoptions aren't submitted until the start of the semester, students won't get their books in time for class.
  3. Financial Aid requirements. Some financial aid requires students to purchase course material at the Bookstore. If Follett does not get adoptions or do not have the book in stock, these students' ability to acquire their course material becomes greatly limited.
  4. Students' budgeting and planning. It is frustrating for students if their course material is not posted ahead of the start of the semester and they are unable to buy it beforehand. The bookstore starts to get phone calls from students regarding course material as soon as early registration starts. If this information is not available, students are unable to budget and plan their upcoming semester's expenses and we are unable to assist them in any way.
  5. Publishers are now printing on demand as orders come in instead of keeping warehouses full of books. This limits the availability for late orders/requests whether from Follett or students direct. when book adoptions aren't turned in and buying from the publisher is the only option, it is possible students may not get their books in time for class due to the publisher having to physically print and send them as they are ordered.

The Bookstore's ability to order and have course materials on hand at the campus store ensures all students have access to their course materials regardless of when they register (i.e., late adds) or choose to purchase their books.

If you have any questions about the book adoption process, please don't hesitate to contact Karissa Noragon, the UAF Bookstore manager, or call the store at 907-474-6858. We appreciate your understanding and hope to receive your book adoptions soon!
