CFOS seminar: Resurgence of the Anthropocene in the Ross Sea
Date: March 16, 2022
Time: 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Location: Online
The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences will hold its next weekly seminar on Wednesday, March 16, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Zoom. The talk will be offered by David Ainley, a research ecologist with Penguin Science and H.T. Harvey & Associates Ecological Consultants.
Resurgence of the Anthropocene in the Ross Sea, Antarctica
The Ross Sea in Antarctica is classified as the ocean area least affected by human activities. The Conservation of Antarctic Living Marine Resources and the Antarctic Treaty have included most of the Ross Sea within a marine protected area. David Ainley will discuss how the Ross Sea ecosystem is changing due to increases in penguin and seal species, which could be caused in part by fishing pressure on the Antarctic Toothfish.
