CNSM launches new pre-health website

UAF’s College of Natural Science and Mathematics has launched a new pre-health website. Since summer 2019, CNSM has worked to increase awareness of its diverse science program offerings.

Although UAF is the leading Ph.D.-granting university in Alaska and its research specialties are recognized worldwide, many pre-health students assume they have to leave Alaska for most of their studies. Kinchel C. Doerner,  CNSM dean, hopes to change that perception.

“CNSM has very strong programs in the sciences. There are fantastic opportunities, right in our own backyard," Doerner said. “We are looking to increase awareness and also be positioned to answer questions regarding the myriad of pre-professional opportunities available.”

Students who are interested in pursuing health care careers can hit the ground running with an array of opportunities that include strong science programs, work-study curriculums, and undergraduate and graduate research projects, along with mentor-based instruction.

“At this point, it is a little-known secret, and we are going to change that,” said Doerner.
