Compliance Alliance fact: NCAA in the know

The Compliance Alliance committee was created in fall 2021 to focus on the many compliance requirements at UAF, and would like to share the following compliance tip or fact with you this week:

Did you know that NCAA rules place certain restrictions on the benefits that can be provided to student-athletes? In general, UAF faculty and staff are allowed to do anything for a student-athlete that you would do for any other student. However, there are some restrictions on “extra benefits” provided to student-athletes such as meals, housing and transportation outside of what is provided by the athletics department.

If you have any questions about what you can provide student-athletes, please contact Jim Hall at jkhall5@alaska.edu for assistance. Additional resources may be found on the athletics compliance page at https://alaskananooks.com/sports/2022/2/8/ncaa-compliance.aspx

The Compliance Alliance meets monthly to evaluate risks associated with compliance issues, identify university policies that need to be enhanced and analyze the effectiveness of compliance processes across campus. You can contact the chair, Ashley Munro, at 907-474-1934 or akmunro@alaska.edu.
