Diabetes prevention program training course offered in Anchorage

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will lead a lifestyle coach training course for individuals or organizations interested in offering a face-to-face group diabetes prevention program.

The National Diabetes Prevention Program uses the Prevent T2 curriculum developed by the Centers for Disease Control to prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes. Leslie Shallcross, a master trainer select for Alaska and a CES health, home and family development agent, will teach the curriculum.

The course will meet in person on Jan. 27-28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 219 E. International Road in Anchorage. The cost is $275. Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance may reimburse tuition costs for successful participants. Tuition waivers are available.

Shallcross will provide mentoring and technical support after the training.
