Family Medical Leave (FML) updates
Unum is UA’s new Family Medical Leave (FML) administrator. Unum provides a dedicated team of highly trained specialists who are experts in FML and state leave laws. This allows the University of Alaska to ensure excellent customer service, quick response times, transparency throughout the FML process, and compliance with all state and federal leave laws.
If you are applying for FML in the future, or are currently on approved FML, our process has changed. Please visit our FML website for employee and supervisor FAQs, as well as general information on FML.
Unum will be hosting online training opportunities throughout the year for UA employees and supervisors to attend. This training will go over the basics of FML management and responsibilities – eligibility and approval, time tracking, reporting leave, and more. This training is recommended for all employees and supervisors to understand the FML process and responsibilities you may have serving in each role.
Unum is currently scheduled to provide the following online training sessions:
- Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022 from 10–11 a.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022 (recorded) from 11 a.m.–noon
- Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 from 10–11:00 a.m. (Registration link pending)
Training will be recorded. If you are not able to attend one of the trainings, the recorded version will be available on our website under the "Training with Unum" button at the top of the page.
If you have any questions on the new process, please reach out to UA Benefits directly to discuss.
