Food protection manager workshop planned

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension will teach a two-day certified food protection manager workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 26-27.

Alaska regulations require food establishments to have at least one certified food protection manager on staff. A CFPM is knowledgeable about food safety practices and uses this knowledge to provide consumers with safe food, protect public health and prevent foodborne illnesses.

Interested individuals must take the training and pass a certified exam. Julie Cascio, Mat-Su District Extension agent, will teach the class via videoconference and proctored testing is available in Fairbanks, Juneau, Palmer, Sitka and Unalaska. If you are in another location, contact Cascio at jmcascio@alaska.edu to make sure proctoring can be arranged in your location.

The class costs $200, which includes the class, study guide and one proctored test. Register by Oct. 11 at http://bit.ly/CFPM21 so that course materials will reach students ahead of time.  For more information, contact Cascio at 907-745-3677.
