University of Alaska Fairbanks provost and executive vice chancellor, Anupma Prakash, has appointed Karsten Hueffer to serve as the dean of the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. Hueffer is a tenured professor of veterinary medicine and has served CNSM as acting/interim dean for over a year. Under his leadership the college showed a steep fiscal recovery, launched new academic programs, hired new faculty, grew enrollment, and is moving forward embracing UAF’s vision and strategic plan.

“Dr. Hueffer’s appointment as dean provides the continuity in leadership that is needed to capitalize on the positive momentum that CNSM has built and I look forward to working with him to grow CNSM,” Prakash said.

“I am excited to continue working with faculty, staff, and students in CNSM as well as other stakeholders to serve the state, the nation and people all over the planet by addressing important questions in the natural world with a special focus on the North. I look forward to supporting CNSM on a path to sustainable growth,” Hueffer said.

Hueffer will take over as CNSM dean on July 2, 2023, at the start of the next fiscal year.
